Who would have believed that such an unusual & inexpensive piece of clothing could bring me such 'joy'!! A long skirt has never been on my radar of things I needed to own. There was something about them that reminded me of a 97-year-old woman, who lived in my father's hometown of Lamezia. She'd spend her days sweeping the front steps of St. Anne's church. I could see her in action from my grandparents' balcony. Who wears a long skirt in the middle of the day, except for an elderly woman in traditional folkloric clothing...
It never occurred to me that I, who happens to be quite petite, could be comfortable enough to go out in public wearing one.
Up until last Sunday, that is...
While spending a quiet Sunday afternoon shopping at The Bay, my mother came across this deep orangey/red skirt and insisted on buying it for me. Without even trying it on, I agreed to take it home and give it a shot. To my surprise, it fit beautifully and made me look about 6 feet tall (I'm actually 5'3", I swear)! It certainly entered the category of things that I never knew I needed, but can't see myself living without!
What was even better was the price of this beauty! She snatched it up for the ridiculous price of $25! Can you believe it!? It's by a company called Dex Clothing, and the quality is phenomenal. It even came with a classy black leather belt with pretty gold hardware.
I paired my newest edition with an American Apparel body suit and a pair of black Hush Puppies ankle booties. You can't really see them in these pictures but I call them my 'nun boots' because they look like an uber-conservative pair of old school boots... the kind a nun would wear! I've been carrying around this leather Tommy Hilfiger clutch/wallet since last weekend, primarily because I've been too lazy to change it since my Saturday evening escapades... but it seemed to work well with the outfit either way! To add a touch of detail, I put on my black and gold bracelet, which you can read about here, to match the black and gold belt that came with the skirt!
