Strawberry by Sonia Rykiel

One of the greatest pleasures in life is finding a treasure so fabulous that you can't not buy it. The pants I'm wearing are designed by Sonia Rykiel, and are hardly affordable for a university student like myself. I was shopping in between classes at La Baie in downtown Montreal when I spotted these beauties. The silk fabric fell effortlessly, flattering any body type. The strawberries and polkadots give these pants a personality of their own. I had to have them.

When I saw the price tag, I was blown away by the amazing discount from close to $600+tax to $150. I thought there was a mistake, so I hurried to the cash and completed the transaction before the sales clerk had the chance to tell me that there was a pricing error. The adrenaline rush of this sale was unreal.

Here's the thing...

As I packed my beach bag this morning, I thought today would be the perfect day to share my favorite Sonia Rykiel strawberry pants on the blog. I put them in my beach bag with a free people lace bandeau and off I went to the beach.

Here's the thing...

Easy Medium

The past couple of days have been a mix of super boring yet really busy. Yesterday I started my day with a simple plan: the beach! While picking up some fresh bread and deli meats at the local supermarket,  I ran into one of my favorite cousins.  She and her husband were heading to the beach  as well, so I joined them. Once there, three other of her siblings and their families met up with us that same day. What I thought would be a quiet day with Fifty Shades Freed, ended up being a loud & insane afternoon goofing around in the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. We couldn't get enough of each other, so they decided to organize a late potluck dinner at their parent's place, my Zia Franca & Zio Antonio. They have six married children, who each have a number of kids of their own, so the house filled fast and the noise level reached decibels unfamiliar to me. After eating lots of amazing food and some time spent playing Twister with the kids, I headed home for a night of rest. Today, on the other hand, I did nothing! I'm convinced that people in Italy run on two speeds. Super high, or really low. There's no easy medium.

I'm looking forward to...

Gimmie Some Leg, Lilly Pulitzer Agenda
1. GOING HOME! After being away for over two months, I'm ready to go home.  Being in Europe all summer has been an amazing experience, but home is home. And I miss it.

2. Seeing my dad and brothers. Haven't seen my main men in months, so this one is high on my list...

3. Using my newly purchased Lilly Pulitzer agenda! I ordered it online this morning, and I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about! Apparently these things are amazing.

4. Starting school! Since it's my last year of university, I had first pick of the classes I wanted, and I sure picked some awesome ones! All business, of course. So excited to only have two days of class per week!

Event Shoes

The Corso Giovanni Nicotera has always been the happening place in Lamezia even though commercial shopping malls are on the rise. Event Shoes is a pint-sized shoe store positioned next to big names like Furla, Bertucci, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, and Cavalli retailers, among others. What makes these shoes extra special is not only the design but also the workmanship. Better still is the made in Italy engraving on the leather soles.

Puppy Love

Over the last couple of years, I've developed what seems to be an irrational love for Hush Puppies footwear. I worked for the company for a little over two years, and I ended up with an absurd amount of their shoes, so you'll be seeing a lot of them on this blog!

I have super sensitive feet and this particular model was a godsend. The suede is incredibly soft and the sole is so cushioned and light that it feels like you have nothing on your feet! The model is called Manyara and is available here! They are seriously the best for travelling!

Burberry & Balenciaga

I picked up these two babies during my stay in Florence last month. I went to a Balenciaga screening during Montreal fashion week last year, and since then I've been dying to get my hands on one of his pieces. I was thrilled to make my very first Balenciaga purchase, a grey waxed denim jacket. I was equally excited about my Burberry dress, because, well, it's Burberry. Enough said.

Let Love Live

Spent yet another day soaking up the sun on one of the beautiful beaches of Calabria. I wore a cute cropped tee and jean short shorts. I've been thinking a lot about the crop top trend this summer, and  I really do believe that the only appropriate place to pair two teeny tiny garments like these is on the beach. I was so shocked to see women prancing around big cities like Florence and Rome wearing next to nothing! Goes to show that less isn't always more.

Fifty Shades

If you haven't already read the Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James, you should. I'm currently reading the third book, Fifty Shades Freed, and am completely and utterly captivated by both Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's characters. The chemistry between the two of them is so addicting that it's hard to put the book down. Of course, as in most fictional stories, it's based on a completely irrational and unrealistic relationship. But then again, who doesn't love a far-fetched love story? If you're looking for an easy read, you should definitely consider picking these up. You won't be disappointed!

Vingt et un

I know it's super late to be writing a birthday post, but I wanted to introduce my best friend Maria to the blog. She'll be studying in Barcelona this fall which means I won't see her until January (unless of course I go visit- fingers crossed!) Going to miss her tons!

A couple of months ago, we celebrated our 21st birthdays together, which was an unforgettable experience. We spent the day getting our hair and makeup done, slipped into our birthday outfits in the evening, and went out for a night on the town.

Arm Candy

I'd never really been a huge fan of accessorizing until I got my Pandora bracelet about two years ago. Since then, I've gradually adapted to the idea of having bracelets on my arms more than often. Since I've been in Italy, it seems that every new place I go I'm tempted to buy either a charm for my Pandora or a new bracelet all together.

The starfish and the hanging fleur de lis are representative of my time spent in Florence and on the Island of Elba. The black flowery bracelet is actually made of cashmere and is sold in various colours. Apparently they're all the rage here in Europe this summer. In fact, I ended up with this bracelet because the saleswoman at one of the stores near the Ponte Vecchio would not let me leave without one! I'm desperately trying to remember the name of the designer but It's just not coming to me. I'll be back with it when/if I remember! The Juicy Couture gold and black bracelet was a gift from my mom. She surprised me with it when she met me in Rome!

Rainforest Lovin'

Went on a crazy Calliope Italia shopping spree a few days ago and picked up these wild things. Wore them with my wilfred bustier tank and Kors sandals. The print reminds me of some sort of tropical frog from the rainforest. Then again, when I look at them I also see a snake... and a budgie.

No better time to wear them than on a muggy day in the country. Spent my day lounging around the house reading Fifty Shades and maintaining my solid diet of cookies, cake, pastries, and figs.

When we get back to the farm...

Today I went for lunch at a family friend's place on the country side. Spent all afternoon (and evening) eating tons of amazing food. Basically stuffed my face with cake and pastries for six consecutive hours.  Best.

Got this floral blouse at Calliope Italia here in Calabria. Love how fresh and comfortable the cotton is. I paired it with some white jeans and a pair of cute Hush Puppies flip-flops. The little baby I'm holding reminds me so much of my little brother. Had to post a pic to show you all how insanely cute he is!

Fifth Avenue

Just a quick post to share my favourite summer nail polish. It's called Fifth Avenue by essie.
Love this colour because it's bright and fun. The quality of essie nail polish is outstanding! It lasts forever!

Sun Kissed 3.0

Spending the next few weeks flip-flopping around the beaches of Calabria. These shots were taken yesterday at my dad's favourite beach - La Marinella. My mom and I are without our driver (a.k.a. dad!) for the next month and we somehow managed to find this place without getting too lost. Huge accomplishment. I'm wearing a Free People bikini cover and my trusty Prada sunnies.

Roman Holiday

I flew to Rome last week to meet my mom (who I hadn't seen in a month)! We spent a relaxing four days exploring the city and eating tons of Gelato. Because we had both been to Rome before, we were happy to roam the streets at a leisurely pace and just chill out without stressing about waiting long lines to visit touristic hot-spots. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a luxurious air-conditioned hotel as much as I did during our stay in Vatican City. With temperatures reaching over 45 degrees, we were glad to lie in bed eating snacks and watching Bridesmaids (hilarious)! Of course, we didn't miss going to see the Vatican and the Spanish Steps!

Exile me to Elba!

A few weeks ago I went to Isola d'Elba, which is located 20 kilometres from the town of Piombino in Tuscany. In my previous post, I mentioned that Cinque Terre was the most beautiful place I'd ever been. Scratch that. Isola d'Elba takes the cake for most gorgeous place in my world.

Getting to the island the weekend of July 21st proved to be quite a challenge. Since there was an Italy-wide strike for all public transit starting at different times throughout the day we left, we had to meticulously coordinate our cabs/trains/buses/boats in order to not be stranded on the side of a highway... again (never a dull moment in Italy)! We travelled from Florence to Piombino by Sita bus, which was quite comfortable. We then took a ferry boat from the Piombino port to Isola d'Elba. Following our 1.5h boat ride, we took a 40 minute cab to our unbelievably beautiful hotel in Marciano Marina.

The town we stayed in (and the island in general) was the furthest thing from a tourist attraction I've ever seen. It was jam-packed with Tuscan locals who were extremely warm and welcoming. It was super awesome because I got to really practise my Italian, since very few people spoke English. During my stay on the Island I went cliff diving, kayaking, and snorkelling. I sunbathed all day and indulged in amazing sea food by night.

I came out of my four day vacation from my vacation with a new appreciation for the small unknown parts of Italy, as well as a new perspective on life: You only live once.
