Le Lendemain de Noël

Hi there!

I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and were able to spend some quality time with the people you care about most. I definitely had an awesome one, filled with lots of laughs (fairy godmother style!) and memories! Aside from spending tons of time with my family, I was also spoiled rotten...thanks Mom and Dad! The spoiling continued past Christmas when my mom and I decided to hit the mall on Boxing Day, for the first time EVER.

The malls opened at 1pm on the 26th, so my mom and I got there around 12:30. We parked at the other end of the world and ventured off into the unknown world of Boxing Day. Since we were both boxing newbies, we decided to stick to our favourite store: The Bay. As soon as the doors opened, we charged in and I ran straight to my two favourite sections (Free People & Juicy Couture). I picked out an arm full of clothes, met my mom in the hat section, picked out a headband, paid, and we were out of there by 1:30.

Here's what I got!

Christmas Quicky

This is going to be a quick post because I have to be up in like five hours...

Yesterday I spent my afternoon running around the mall doing some last minute Christmas shopping and searching for something Christmasy to wear to my dad's company party. I settled for this glitzy dress, rushed home, got dressed, and ran out the door. I've never owned anything this sparkly and it's basically a miracle that I was actually able to pull this one off. I hadn't even tried it on at the store before buying it!

Anyway, here are a few pictures from last night. My dress is by Free People (duh!), shoes are from Vanessa's store, and my accessories are from all over the place.

Last Minute Holiday Gift Ideas

Here are a few quick gift ideas for those of you who are last minute Christmas shoppers (like me)! With the holidays less than a week away, finding those perfect 'somethings' for your favourite girls isn't always the easiest task. I came up with eight items that I could easily see any girly girl loving! Most of them are available across canada and the U.S. Hope these help!

A Day in the Studio: Autumn Stephen Photography

Hi lovelies!

Hope you are all doing well! I'm back to blogging and I can't even begin to tell you how happy and relieved I am to have some 'me' time again! The last few weeks have been completely and utterly INSANE! Between finals, work, tons of projects, and trying to maintain a somewhat normal social life, I've found almost no time to dedicate to my blog.  Glad to be back though, and really excited to share what I've been up to with you all!

So let's jump right into it...

Why I Hate School But Love Education||Spoken Word

A friend of mine shared this video on facebook and I thought I'd share it on my blog. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

See you on the 14th when my finals are over!

The UGG(ly) Dilemma! Help Needed!

Hi everyone!

This post isn't going to be one of my usuals. I thought it would be fun to get some of your opinions on an issue that I hold near and dear to my heart...

Ugg Boots.

When I was fourteen, my parents shipped my brother and I off to Italy in the middle of the winter. Before leaving, I convinced my mom that I absoultely NEEDED to hop on the Ugg bandwagon, so she went ahead and bought me my very first pair of Chocolate Brown Ugg boots. Since then, I've had a love/hate relationship with them... but still, I can't seem to stop myself from spending hundreds of dollars on Ugg(ly) boots almost every year.

This year I told myself that I wasn't going to fall into the same trap, but once again, I ended up with a brand new pair of Shanleigh waterproof Uggs

Here's the story...

Is it time for your Goose?

As I sit on my bed, hot chocolate in hand, staring at the beautiful snowflakes falling right outside my window, I wonder... when is it the 'right' time to start wearing my winter parka?

I'll be honest and tell you that my parka came out about two weeks ago when Montreal started experiencing freezing temperatures. Quickly after taking it out, I realized that I might have been a bit ahead of the game... It hadn't even snowed yet! In fact, during the last couple of weeks, I've gone from wearing my goose down parka to wearing as little as a blazer. Talk about bi-polar weather!

Seeing people in their Canada Goose jackets in the middle of September certainly made me cringe and say (maybe a little bit too loudly!) 'IT'S TOO EARLY FOR YOUR GOOSE, BRO!', but with December right around the corner, I couldn't help but wonder if it's... time

I decided to do a bit of research on the subject and came up with some comical, yet somewhat true suggestions and answers to the big question.

A Designer Affair: Mélissa Nepton

I had the opportunity to meet with Montreal fashion designer Mélissa Nepton at the Hush Puppies boutique in Carrefour Laval on Saturday. Mélissa kindly showcased her fall/winter 2012 collection at the store while she met with customers and fans of her line. I was fortunate enough to spend some time talking with her about her career, future collection, and of course something a little more personal!

Throwback Thursday - Summer '12

Thought I'd post a few of my favourite photos from summer 2012. I'm missing it now more than ever! With finals right around the corner and winter not too far off, it feels pretty good to reminisce over the fabulous summer I spent hopping around Italy. Enjoy!

Monday Morning Inspiration

Just a little Monday morning inspiration for my lovely readers. I'm stuck in the library all day studying for my last midterm. I guess I'm studying 'with love' today...

Hope you all have a fabulous day!

Lush Visit: My First Impression

I visited Lush Cosmetics last week for the very first time. Since the store first opened in Fairview Pointe-Claire, I always walked by it and was semi-conflicted by the absurdly strong smell and the wild coloured soaps and bath bombs. Amy from The Pretty Vain convinced me that I needed the notoriously famous Ocean Salt face and body scrub in my life, so I went on over and indulged in the fabulous Lush experience.

Take Me Home, Country Roads

I spent the day in the country with A, riding horses and getting lost.

Let me tell you the tale of our adventurous day...

We fired up our GPS with 'Mountain View Ranch' as our destination and left Montreal at around 9 AM. When we got to our "destination" less than an hour later, we knew something was up... Rigaud isn't exactly close. GPS Lady told us to drive 0.8 kilometres and find our destination on the left. Of course, the residential cul-de-sac was not anywhere near a ranch... so we kept driving. Stopped at one (or five) restaurants to ask for directions with no luck. We finally decided to give the ranch owner a call to ask exactly where his place was...

A Few Things...

Hi there!

I'm going to start this post off by mentioning that I took a bit of a blogging hiatus this passed week because I was up to my ears in school work and really didn't have much time to take any pictures... not to mention, I was living at the library in sweats for a solid eight days! Luckily they're over now, so I'm back... and so happy to be! Before I begin on my rant about my latest obsessions, I want to congratulate Emily on winning a collectible tin of Red Velvet tea from DAVIDs TEA! Check your inbox!

Ok, so here goes...

THIS NAIL POLISH: I got this darling at Sephora during the Christmas holidays about a year ago. It's called 'Looks Like Rain, Dear' (available here) and is part of the Sephora by O.P.I. collection. When I got it, the world was going through a bit of a sparkle craze and I figured that there wasn't anything better than gold for the holiday season. I wore it about three times and then let it get lost in my sea of nail polishes...

Anyway, I rediscovered this gem last night. When I put it on, I instantly felt like decorating my house for Christmas (HALLOWEEN NEEDS TO END. NOW)! The consistency of this polish is awesome. It's loaded with TONS of sparkles and dries fairly quickly. I really only needed to put on one coat but I decided to put on two because I secretly love torturing myself (it's seriously going to be a b!+*# to get off!).

Hangout of the Week - Nespresso

Since one of my favourite things to do in Montreal is to discover new coffee shops and restaurants, I'm thinking that this blog should have a segment called "Hangout of the Week"!

Today I had the good fortune of stumbling upon Nespresso, which is definitely one of the better shops I've been to! Some wouldn't even call this place a coffee shop because it's actually a store where you can purchase Nespresso machines! In my books though, it's a good ol' fashioned coffee stop.

Thrifting for Dummies

Over a catch-up sesh with a friend from high school, she learned that never in my life had I been to a thrift shop. In an entirely desperate attempt at distracting ourselves from studying, we headed over to St. Laurent street to a store called 'Eva B'.

With my mind running a mile a minute, excited and scared about what I was about to get myself into, I asked my dear old friend and thrifting expert Cassandra for some pointers on finding perfect second hand items. Here's what she had to say...

Never knew I needed it; can't live without it

Who would have believed that such an unusual & inexpensive piece of clothing could bring me such 'joy'!! A long skirt has never been on my radar of things I needed to own. There was something about them that reminded me of a 97-year-old woman, who lived in my father's hometown of Lamezia. She'd spend her days sweeping the front steps of St. Anne's church. I could see her in action from my grandparents' balcony. Who wears a long skirt in the middle of the day, except for an elderly woman in traditional folkloric clothing...

It never occurred to me that I, who happens to be quite petite, could be comfortable enough to go out in public wearing one.

Up until last Sunday, that is...

Remember Me?

Hi there! Remember me?

I know I've been a terrible blogger this past week, but I've seriously been so swamped with homework and studying for midterms, I haven't had a moment to breathe, let alone blog! I did have a fantastic weekend, so I'm hoping you'll find this post a fun one!

Thanksgiving: A Reflection

Today I spent some time hopping around the city with my older brother in search of the perfect gift. Before heading back to the burbs to help set the table for Thanksgiving dinner, I took a moment to reflect on what I have to be thankful for, and it turns out I can't even begin to explain how many wonderful things I have going for me in my life.

Still 16... Sometimes

Let's talk about this laptop bag:

When I was sixteen years old, I got my first job at a local bakery. Having a predisposed love for all things beautiful (I got it from my mama!), when I set eyes on this bold Juicy Couture laptop bag, I knew I had to have it. My parents would not submit to spending $200 on a case for me, so I saved up my very own money and bought it... for myself.

Well, let me tell you, I've had this darling for close to six years, and it's still in awesome shape. With time, I grew out of the designer labels stamped on all surfaces phase, and this bag is basically the only thing I have left from that crazy time. Still love it because it reminds me of my sweet teens, and 'cause it's cute... obviously. (I also sold a lot of baguettes for it!)

My Closet Story

When I started this blog I was in the midst of a three month vacation, where I was essentially living out of a suitcase, and buying things as I needed them. My summer wardrobe was very complete, but it just kept on growing! I'm normally the type of gal who likes to plan in advance, and always purchase things way early for the following seasons. To my surprise, when I opened my closet for the first time in months, I realized I had nothing to wear for the fall. My wardrobe is lacking some basics, and I'm on a mission to fix this little problem! I feel like I'm talking about Pokemon or something, but seriously... GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL!

Here are a few things I'm on the hunt for:

A Place Where Everyone Fits In...

Have you ever walked into a place where people are dressed to the nines, while others are wearing sweats and Crocs? A place where both young & old, working or unemployed, and students, unite over the love of a single Canadian icon? A zone where it is socially acceptable to show up dressed head to toe in velour and hang out at any hour of the day or night?

I'm sure that most Canadians can answer 'yes' to the above questions.

Tim Hortons is the most unpretentious coffee shop on the planet. Anyone can be a patron at Tim Hortons and feel that they 'fit in'. As I sit here writing this post, I'm listening to two women in their mid 70s talk about their first, second, and fifth husbands. To my right is a young couple dressed in black-tie attire, chatting discreetly over a cup of coffee. I'm trying to hear what they have to say, but can't catch a word! I'm here with my school friends, supposedly exchanging our notes from last class... which seems pointless because all we seem to be doing is going off topic with every new customer ordering Timbits or a double-double....

Autumn Things : Top 4 Foodie Faves

With the start of fall comes the desire to indulge in some of Montreal's most comforting foods. If you're  a huge foodie like me, and are living in or visiting the Montreal area, then you'll definitely want to check out these four YUM worthy spots!

1. One of my favourite things to do in the fall is to walk through different markets in the city. The Jean Talon Market and the Atwater Market are two in particular that I really enjoy. With the pumpkins out, and the fruits extra ripe, you have access to the absolute best local produce that Montreal has to offer.

Makeup Favourites

I'm a huge makeup counter junkie, and I like to think that over the years I've tested out enough products to know which ones are the best. The word Shoppers holds an entirely ridiculous level of importance in my world. Even though I'm not the type of girl to cake on tons of makeup daily, I still can't help myself when I walk into a Shoppers Drug Mart! I want... NEED everything. Seriously though, one time I was staying at my cousins in a small town just north of Toronto and there was a brand new Shoppers opening up right by their house. On the opening day, we basically spent HOURS in there trying to justify our need to have every single liquid eyeliner they had... To say I've tried my fair share of mascaras, liners, pressed powders, concealers, etc. would be an understatement...

Here's my list of heart stopping, life altering, must have in my life cosmetics...

University Survival Guide

With my fall semester in full swing, I thought this would be the perfect time to put together a survival guide for fellow university students.

At one point or another, we all find ourselves wanting to dig a deep hole to bury ourselves in. As a third year student, this feeling is definitely not something new to me. Instead of stressing though, I've learned to take a step back, reflect on what I have to do, apply a bit of lipgloss, and get to work!

Here are a few tricks I use to avoid spiralling downhill...

Transitioning Into Fall

For me, fall is all about finding those key transition pieces that can take you from season to season, effortlessly. Layering a cozy knit on top of a cute dress is probably my favorite way to achieve the "it's not quite summer, but not yet fall" look. A chunky knit on top of a breezy dress is the perfect way to stay warm, but not too warm, as the season changes.

You had a bad day, the camera don't lie...

Ever have one of those days where there's nothing you want more than to stay in your bed all day and watch reruns of your favorite TV show?

Well, today was one of those days for me...

I woke up with my mind set on skipping my morning class and chilling out at home watching Private Practice. Instead, I got my butt out of bed and headed to the city to attend my lecture. I mindlessly got dressed and basically ran out the door so that I wouldn't be late. Little did I know, my day was about to get WAY worse.

Spa Day: Thunder & Lightening Edition

What started out as a relatively warm and sunny day ended up turning into one of the scariest/craziest thunder and lightening storms I've ever seen. There was definitely no better place to be than the one and only Spa Finlandais in Rosemere, QC!

I spent yesterday evening celebrating my cousin's 20th birthday at the Finish Spa with seven of her best girlfriends. Despite the insane weather, we had an awesome time!

11 September 2012

Ponchos are for Lovers

Yesterday was a beyond crazy day in the world of K.M.A. Since I had three three hour classes in a row, and no breaks in between, it was more than necessary to be extra comfy in order to endure nine consecutive hours of class. I decided I was going to be a bit of a hippy and put on a cool poncho style sweater and headed off to school.

I regularly shop in the Free People section at The Bay, and love picking out pieces that I wouldn't normally buy. This sweater is a prime example of something that is far from my regular style, but turned out to be one of the best (and most different) pieces in my closet.

Gimmie Some Leg Already!

Having watched Disney's Aladdin a few too many times as a child, I developed a strange yet comforting love for flamingos. For one because they're pink, and second because Jasmine has an abundance of them at her palace - and all princesses (including myself) should have one flamingo at the very least...

When I spotted this Lilly Pulitzer planner on shoplitzyglam.com, it was love at first sight. I immediately purchased it and waited rather impatiently for it to get here for just a bit under two weeks.

08 September 2012

Christmas in September

Even though summer is still a few weeks from over, I was feeling sort of wintery when I woke up yesterday morning, so I threw on the most festive pieces I own and called it a day! There are days when all you want to do is put on what makes you feel good - and just don't give a $#!+ if you're in season... or way out of it!

Montreal Fashion Week: Tavan & Mitto

This evening I had the opportunity to participate in Montreal Fashion week, and it was definitely an experience worth blogging about! With just barely enough sleep (and a serious case of jet lag), I headed downtown to the Arsenal gallery, where fashion week events are currently taking place.

Bittersweet

After two and a half months of travelling, I'm finally on my way back home to Montreal. I can't even begin to explain what an unbelievable experience this has been. During my time away, I saw places that I could never have imagined, even in my wildest dreams. I learned the language of my ancestors and got to explore their beautiful lands. I met some incredible people and developed friendships that I'm sure will last a lifetime.

As sad as I am to leave this gorgeous country, I'm excited to be going home, too. In a few short hours I'll be in my home surrounded by my family, who I've missed dearly! I guess I can say that leaving paradise really is bittersweet.

See you on the flip side!

Even the Sun Sets in Paradise

As I'm writing this post, I'm sitting in my grandmother's kitchen watching her and my mom fry grispelli, an Italian recipe, which has been around for centuries. It's thundering and pouring rain out and being in this tiny kitchen surrounded by my family who are talking (a little too loudly) and laughing, really is the only place in the world I want to be. It's such a beautiful sound.

Today is my last real day of vacation before I have to pack up and head home, so these are the last set of beach pictures you'll be seeing for a little while...

Strawberry by Sonia Rykiel

One of the greatest pleasures in life is finding a treasure so fabulous that you can't not buy it. The pants I'm wearing are designed by Sonia Rykiel, and are hardly affordable for a university student like myself. I was shopping in between classes at La Baie in downtown Montreal when I spotted these beauties. The silk fabric fell effortlessly, flattering any body type. The strawberries and polkadots give these pants a personality of their own. I had to have them.

When I saw the price tag, I was blown away by the amazing discount from close to $600+tax to $150. I thought there was a mistake, so I hurried to the cash and completed the transaction before the sales clerk had the chance to tell me that there was a pricing error. The adrenaline rush of this sale was unreal.

29 August 2012

Here's the thing...

As I packed my beach bag this morning, I thought today would be the perfect day to share my favorite Sonia Rykiel strawberry pants on the blog. I put them in my beach bag with a free people lace bandeau and off I went to the beach.

Here's the thing...

Easy Medium

The past couple of days have been a mix of super boring yet really busy. Yesterday I started my day with a simple plan: the beach! While picking up some fresh bread and deli meats at the local supermarket,  I ran into one of my favorite cousins.  She and her husband were heading to the beach  as well, so I joined them. Once there, three other of her siblings and their families met up with us that same day. What I thought would be a quiet day with Fifty Shades Freed, ended up being a loud & insane afternoon goofing around in the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea. We couldn't get enough of each other, so they decided to organize a late potluck dinner at their parent's place, my Zia Franca & Zio Antonio. They have six married children, who each have a number of kids of their own, so the house filled fast and the noise level reached decibels unfamiliar to me. After eating lots of amazing food and some time spent playing Twister with the kids, I headed home for a night of rest. Today, on the other hand, I did nothing! I'm convinced that people in Italy run on two speeds. Super high, or really low. There's no easy medium.

25 August 2012

I'm looking forward to...

Gimmie Some Leg, Lilly Pulitzer Agenda
1. GOING HOME! After being away for over two months, I'm ready to go home.  Being in Europe all summer has been an amazing experience, but home is home. And I miss it.

2. Seeing my dad and brothers. Haven't seen my main men in months, so this one is high on my list...

3. Using my newly purchased Lilly Pulitzer agenda! I ordered it online this morning, and I can't wait to see what all the fuss is about! Apparently these things are amazing.

4. Starting school! Since it's my last year of university, I had first pick of the classes I wanted, and I sure picked some awesome ones! All business, of course. So excited to only have two days of class per week!

Event Shoes

The Corso Giovanni Nicotera has always been the happening place in Lamezia even though commercial shopping malls are on the rise. Event Shoes is a pint-sized shoe store positioned next to big names like Furla, Bertucci, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, and Cavalli retailers, among others. What makes these shoes extra special is not only the design but also the workmanship. Better still is the made in Italy engraving on the leather soles.

23 August 2012

Puppy Love

Over the last couple of years, I've developed what seems to be an irrational love for Hush Puppies footwear. I worked for the company for a little over two years, and I ended up with an absurd amount of their shoes, so you'll be seeing a lot of them on this blog!

I have super sensitive feet and this particular model was a godsend. The suede is incredibly soft and the sole is so cushioned and light that it feels like you have nothing on your feet! The model is called Manyara and is available here! They are seriously the best for travelling!

22 August 2012

Burberry & Balenciaga

I picked up these two babies during my stay in Florence last month. I went to a Balenciaga screening during Montreal fashion week last year, and since then I've been dying to get my hands on one of his pieces. I was thrilled to make my very first Balenciaga purchase, a grey waxed denim jacket. I was equally excited about my Burberry dress, because, well, it's Burberry. Enough said.

21 August 2012

Let Love Live

Spent yet another day soaking up the sun on one of the beautiful beaches of Calabria. I wore a cute cropped tee and jean short shorts. I've been thinking a lot about the crop top trend this summer, and  I really do believe that the only appropriate place to pair two teeny tiny garments like these is on the beach. I was so shocked to see women prancing around big cities like Florence and Rome wearing next to nothing! Goes to show that less isn't always more.

20 August 2012

Fifty Shades

If you haven't already read the Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James, you should. I'm currently reading the third book, Fifty Shades Freed, and am completely and utterly captivated by both Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele's characters. The chemistry between the two of them is so addicting that it's hard to put the book down. Of course, as in most fictional stories, it's based on a completely irrational and unrealistic relationship. But then again, who doesn't love a far-fetched love story? If you're looking for an easy read, you should definitely consider picking these up. You won't be disappointed!

19 August 2012

Vingt et un

I know it's super late to be writing a birthday post, but I wanted to introduce my best friend Maria to the blog. She'll be studying in Barcelona this fall which means I won't see her until January (unless of course I go visit- fingers crossed!) Going to miss her tons!

A couple of months ago, we celebrated our 21st birthdays together, which was an unforgettable experience. We spent the day getting our hair and makeup done, slipped into our birthday outfits in the evening, and went out for a night on the town.

18 August 2012

Arm Candy

I'd never really been a huge fan of accessorizing until I got my Pandora bracelet about two years ago. Since then, I've gradually adapted to the idea of having bracelets on my arms more than often. Since I've been in Italy, it seems that every new place I go I'm tempted to buy either a charm for my Pandora or a new bracelet all together.

The starfish and the hanging fleur de lis are representative of my time spent in Florence and on the Island of Elba. The black flowery bracelet is actually made of cashmere and is sold in various colours. Apparently they're all the rage here in Europe this summer. In fact, I ended up with this bracelet because the saleswoman at one of the stores near the Ponte Vecchio would not let me leave without one! I'm desperately trying to remember the name of the designer but It's just not coming to me. I'll be back with it when/if I remember! The Juicy Couture gold and black bracelet was a gift from my mom. She surprised me with it when she met me in Rome!

16 August 2012

Rainforest Lovin'

Went on a crazy Calliope Italia shopping spree a few days ago and picked up these wild things. Wore them with my wilfred bustier tank and Kors sandals. The print reminds me of some sort of tropical frog from the rainforest. Then again, when I look at them I also see a snake... and a budgie.

No better time to wear them than on a muggy day in the country. Spent my day lounging around the house reading Fifty Shades and maintaining my solid diet of cookies, cake, pastries, and figs.

15 August 2012

When we get back to the farm...

Today I went for lunch at a family friend's place on the country side. Spent all afternoon (and evening) eating tons of amazing food. Basically stuffed my face with cake and pastries for six consecutive hours.  Best.

Got this floral blouse at Calliope Italia here in Calabria. Love how fresh and comfortable the cotton is. I paired it with some white jeans and a pair of cute Hush Puppies flip-flops. The little baby I'm holding reminds me so much of my little brother. Had to post a pic to show you all how insanely cute he is!

13 August 2012

Fifth Avenue

Just a quick post to share my favourite summer nail polish. It's called Fifth Avenue by essie.
Love this colour because it's bright and fun. The quality of essie nail polish is outstanding! It lasts forever!
